Hello everyone, this is Sam (left) and Jono. The two of us have lived in Cambodia for about 8 years, between us. We live in Siem Reap town. Both of us are 80’s rejects from England who both decided that there must be something more to life than slaving away for a big company who didn’t appreciate anyone that they employ.
It was 2009 when Jono decided to hand his notice in, say his goodbyes and search for this better life. He did too, after months of travelling he finally ended up in Cambodia and got caught up in it’s majestic charm.
2 years after Jono landed in Cambodia, Sam finally decided to visit and instantly fell in love with the Kingdom of Wonder that is Cambodia, and the dream of that better life. After a brief 3 week holiday, Sam had already decided that this was the life for him. On his return to England, he worked his ass off for four months straight, handed his notice in, and made the move.
Now, 2 and a half years later, we’re happily married to beautiful Khmer ladies, who have become our best friends. We are both loving what our lives have become and wouldn’t change them for anything. With Jono having a 2 year old daughter, and me with a son on the way, there is no place we would rather be.
Anyway, enough about us. Let’s tell you a little bit about cambodianexpat.com. To start, we just wanted to create a blog, but it has since turned into a larger project. Our aim is to provide information on various aspects of life in Cambodia, as well as occasionally blog about our own personal experiences.
We hope to, eventually, be able to put back into the community, in which be both live, that has given us this happiness. Through such projects as the Volunteer Development Children’s Association (VDCA) whose aim it is to better the lives of the Cambodia youth. The VDCA provides free education, such as English, art, computer studies, to the poorer children in Cambodia.
Feel free to visit their website if you would like some more information on what they do.
